As Chair of the Board of Directors of Katimavik, Trudeau is committed to educating politicians, business leaders, educators and the community at large, about the value of providing youth with knowledge, education, tools and resources to become engaged, effective members of society. Trudeau brought an heartfelt message to Globe 2006 — that we must empower youth to become passionate participants in the development of policy, solutions and technical innovations that will drive Canada to become a better, more sustainable, place to live.

As Trudeau suggests, Canada provides a wilderness playground for youth to explore and discover the natural environment. It was Trudeau’s vibrant upbringing in the Canadian wilderness, alongside his father Pierre Elliot Trudeau, that helped him to develop a sense of home place and a commitment to protecting and enhancing the planet. By encouraging youth to experience nature and by giving them the opportunity to share their thoughts and ideas, we can empower youth to face our current environmental challenges, and give them the power to make a difference.
