Ekos: The Ethereal Man

It is a hopeful development. We have the ability to communicate with thousands of individuals worldwide, through the Internet, and it is affordable to the average citizen and not yet another limited privilege for the few (the 2% who own 50% of the worlds wealth). This is a very powerful venue for change; it is a new development. Timely and amazing really, that this tool, this vehicle, has emerged from the morass of human-culture at this juncture. Just as we are on the brink of being overwhelmed by the weight of the masses (and the ever increasing pollution and demands on global resources), we have a tool that, at least in part, allows us to communicate widely and therefore impact large numbers of individuals; the global body politic. This is a hopeful development at a critical time.

Biosphere Navigation: The Tractor Factor

Biosphere Navigation: Existing Structures. Cold Hard Steel Shard Blade Cutting Barging Pushing. Severing Damp Brown Earth; Scarred and Broken. Unseen Subterranean Creat-ures upended and life-ended in a moment of astonished upside down disequilibrium. On the Sea floor, on the Prairie, in the Rainforest, the Blade cuts and swaths through centuries of harmonious co-existence. The wind and the currents follow in due course spreading and wasting the fertile soil, dissipating and disappearing the seabed life filament, scattering the loam of rich soil, collapsing the Forest Canopy with no root bed to uphold the delicate balance. The Tractor Machine moves on; belching, blue smoking, and grinding.

Biosphere Navigation

As I stepped out of my car this morning, the wind pressed against my face like a moving wall of ethereal liquid. It interrupted my soliloquy of thought and consideration; its largesse surrounded and swirl-rounded me; like a fast-flowing-river around a stationary boulder (!). It was a vast, moving, corporeal wall that extended away above, like a rolling wave, and rolled over me as a pebble on the rushing creek bed.

Groundhog Days

West Coast Drill; Seed Work Fantastic, Rain Road Tunnel; Eatsy Popsy, Evening Jazz Vespers, Sleepy Sublime, Dreamy Schemey, Wakey Shakey. West Coast Drill..... I have always liked the movie "Groundhog Day" because it manages to convey, in cinematic form, the idea of repetition, and the recurring cycle. Not an easy topic to articulate and convey, and I thought they did a decent job of taking a run at this elusive but pervasive notion. The Book of Days; the piecemeal crunch of most Human

Harry Potter and EKOS-TV

I was very pleased to finally have the opportunity to interview Searle, the indominatable force and progenitor behind EKOS-TV. He immediately began to wax poetic about the ability of video cams to act as eyes on the world from different parts of the globe and his plans to use EKOS-TV as a source center to organize and disseminate this information. That sounded interesting, to be sure, but my purpose in setting up the interview was to find out a little more about the personal side of launching and maintaining a project such as EKOS-TV. I perservered with my own line of questioning, and gradually, and perhaps a little begrudgingly, he allowed me to steer the discussion towards the more personal and subjective side of the development of EKOS-TV. He softened a bit when I reminded him that it had taken me over two months to set up the interview. So I proceeded with my questions and took note of his responses for later consideration.
