Executive Producer's Dairy: Just When You Think Its Over!

So if you've been counting, you'll know that we've gone nearly two months without adding any new stories to our site. Further, you may have noticed that it has been even longer since we added a new video. Needless to say, we're not happy about this and we're anxious to turn this situation around. In fact, we've already begun to do so! Have you viewed the new story we just posted but a few minutes ago? We're especially pleased to present it. Not only does the video deal with a critically important issue - the struggle of four small communities in Ecuador who are fighting to stop a Canadian mining company from destroying their way of life - but it represents what we hope will become a regular feature on ekosTV, that being, stories contributed by independent producers from around the world. To facilitate this exciting programming opportunity, our IT guru, Prarie, has set up a FTP connection to our server so if you''ve got a video, animation, or podcast you'd like to share with our viewers, get in touch with us and we'll guide you through the painless process. But what have we been up to? As you may recall from my previous blogs, ekosTV signed a license deal with Oxford University Press Canada back in late Oct. of last year to produce a CD-ROM containing eight videos. While afew previously existed, many were in production at the time of the deal being signed. Bringing them to completion and getting them onto the CD-ROM by Jan. 15th pretty much absorbed all of our capacity, especially going into the home stretch when some quirky technical problems arose that had us pulling our hair out. Because we pride ourselves in producing broadcast-quality stories where production values are not scrimped on, we couldn't just gloss over the problems. In the end, we delivered a product that we're all exceptionally proud of. With a bank of new videos produced and several more being sent to us by independent producers in Brazil and the UK, we're in a fine position to add new content on a regular basis from here on in. Yes, I know you've heard that before, I think we'll actually be able to deliver. Equally important for me as the Executive Producer, I can finally turn my attention to marketing and sales. Producing all the great content that's currently on our site and is about to be added comes at a cost, so now I've got to get hustling. Last but certainly not least: ekosTV officially celebrated it's first birthday just a few days ago. Well got to dash.
